NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) is launching a national PSA campaign, “Microplastics Are Micromonsters,” to raise awareness of microplastics in the human body and help families reduce their everyday exposure. Public concern is high, with 9 in 10 Americans reporting they are worried about microplastics in their bodies, and nearly 8 in 10 wanting guidance on how to reduce their risk. Researchers at Duke University estimate that plastic-related chemical exposures may cost the United States a whopping $410 to $930 billion annually in health-related impacts, underscoring the scale of the issue. Microplastics have also entered the national conversation, with U.S. federal agencies pledging to study their presence in human bodies. This campaign brings the issue to life through bold, visually arresting “micromonsters” made from everyday plastic fragments—paired with simple, practical steps people can take at home to reduce risk.
