PSA Campaigns for Consumer Product Safety Commission

Consumer Product Safety Commission:

CPSC is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of injury or death associated with the use of the thousands of consumer products under the agency’s jurisdiction. Deaths, injuries, and property damage from consumer product incidents cost the nation more than $900 billion annually. CPSC is committed to protecting consumers and families from products that pose a fire, electrical, chemical, or mechanical hazard. CPSC’s work to ensure the safety of consumer products – such as toys, cribs, power tools, cigarette lighters, and household chemicals – contributed to a decline in the rate of deaths and injuries associated with consumer products over the past 40 years. A major public education initiative is swimming pool safety.

2020 Fall/Winter CablePAK Anchor it

According to CPSC’s most recent report, 459 children died from tip-over incidents between 2000 and 2018 in  the U.S. Data shows that about every 43 minutes a child is injured from a TV or furniture tipping over.

A new 30-second TV PSA, available in both English and Spanish, illustrates how quickly a tip- over tragedy can occur, even when parents are nearby. With more families staying at home due to COVID-19 restrictions, there is an increased risk for tip-overs. Entitled: Even When You’re Watching, this PSA contains real, terrifying footage of tip-overs caught on video monitors, and, in one case, an incident filmed by a mother carefully watching her toddler. CPSC Pool Safely

The Pool Safely campaign is CPSC’s national public education campaign to reduce childhood drownings, submersion injuries and entrapments in swimming pools and spas. The campaign is a call-to-action for consumers and the industry to adopt proven water safety steps and join a national conversation about pool and spa safety by sharing best practices and other life-saving information. Pool Safely carries out the provisions of the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool & Spa Safety Act (P&SS Act), federal legislation mandating requirements for public pools and spas, including a public information campaign.

Anchor It!

One child dies every two weeks and a child goes to the emergency room every 24 minutes because a TV, furniture – or a combination of both – tips over and falls onto them. With these statistics in mind, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) launched the Anchor It! campaign, a nationwide public education effort aimed at stopping child deaths and injuries that result from tragic tip-overs. The goal of the campaign is to prevent these incidents by educating parents and caregivers with young children about simple, low-cost steps they can take to secure the furniture and TVs in their home.
